The Burdah of al-Būṣīrī is from among the most famous poems composed in honor of the Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ. In this series of commentaries on selected couplets from the Burdah, Shaykh Mokhtar Maghraoui reflects on its spiritual lessons.
My foolish reckless self refused to heed to the warning
Heralded by the onset of grey hair and old age *
Theme: The greying of one’s hair is forerunner of what is to come. Only the unwise allow the self/nafs to ignore its message to them.
*The translation of the couplets in this series are by Aziza Spiker.
