Whenever I read the Qur'an, the sound of the Call from my Lord would penetrate my heart, with His saying:
"O you who believe!"

When we hear the verses calling the believers in the Qur'an, "O you who believe", does it truly penetrate our heart? Are we called to attention, and do we contemplate the meanings of these verses and their significance? In His Wisdom, Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala speaks directly to the community of the believers throughout the Qur'an with this call. Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala addresses us with commands concerning our relationship with Him, our relationship with the Prophet, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, our acts of worship, our moral and family responsibilities, and socio-political and economic affairs. In these verses, we find a clear overview of our duties as believers, as both individuals and as a community:

O you who believe!...

Observe your duty to Allah, with the devotion that is truly due to Him, and do not die except as those who have surrendered.

Seek help through patience and prayer, surely Allah is together with those who are patient.

Spend from what We have provided for you, before a day comes when there will be no trading, nor friendship, nor intercession.

Be staunch upholders of justice, witnesses for Allah, even though it be against yourselves...
