Over the past five years many of us have been struggling to make sense of the carnage we see in Syria. In the past two days alone those feelings have been intensified as we witness children, women and men suffer in ways we wouldn't wish upon our worst enemy. This morning I read this message on Twitter from the great Syrian Scholar Shaykh Muhammad Abul Huda Al-Yaqoubi. It took a while to sink in, and I'm not sure if it fully has.
The Qur'an tells us that nations before us have been tried and tested to such extents that the Prophet of their time and the community of believers with him asked when will God's aide arrive. God responds that it is near. Each one of us can help in being a spiritual and material conduit of that aide to our brothers and sisters in Syria by doing the following:
1. Syria is the land in which Prophets have traversed, it is the land that saints
occupy. These great men and women taught us the immense spiritual power of sending prayers upon the Messenger Muhammad ﷺ. The people of Aleppo are known for their great love of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and their gatherings of prayers upon him. Each of us can strive to send two-thousand prayers upon the Messenger and ask God to allivate their suffering by it. For those that can do more I suggest doing a complete daily reading of the Dalail Al Khayrat
on their behalf.
2. We have all seen the footage of the "White Helmets
" risking their lives to help the people of Syria. These brave men and women have been on the ground in the hardest hit locations and have recently been featured in a Netflix documentary
. Donate now
to their cause and help save a life.
3.There are peaceful protests that have been planned across the United States. Join in and allow your opposition to the crisis be heard. Use the hashtag #STANDWITHALEPPO
to find demonstrations in your area.
We pray by the greatness of our Messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him) that God brings peace to those that are suffering in Syria.
